Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Counselling
How Long Are The Sessions? | All sessions including the Assessment/s are 50 minutes |
How Much Do You Charge? | For latest Fees please visit the Fees Page |
Do you do home visits? | NO. Sessions and consultations are always done in my therapy room or online. |
Will I Need To Come Weekly? | Experience has shown me that weekly sessions are more effective than fortnightly or monthly sessions but the choice is yours. |
I am unable to attend regular weekly sessions on the same day every week, will it still be possible to see you? | Possibly, let’s have a chat and see what we can arrange. |
How many sessions will I need? | This will depend on the issue that brings you to therapy. I will be able to give you a rough idea during your initial assessment session but generally I recommend starting with 8 sessions and then having a review to determine if more sessions are needed. Complex issues can take months of therapy though. |
Will I Feel Better Straight Away? | No, it takes time to feel the benefits of Counselling. In fact clients frequently feel worse at the start of therapy as you open up and talk about your issue, this is normal. If at any time you feel like giving up, please talk to me. Counselling is not easy but it does get better. |
I Feel Really Anxious About Coming To My First Session | It is normal to feel anxious, after all you don’t know me. Please be assured of a warm welcome and a safe, non-judgemental environment in which to discuss your issues. |
I’d Like To Book A Session For A Friend/Family Member, Can I Do This? | Alas no, it’s important that the person who will be attending the appointment contacts me directly, they have to want to engage with the counselling process and feel comfortable with me as their chosen Counsellor. By all means contact me if you would like me to send you some information to forward on to the person in question, I am happy to do this. |
I Would Like To Bring Someone With Me To The Sessions, Can I Do This? | I fully appreciate coming along can be nerve wracking especially initially so if you would like someone with you for your initial session to help you settle in then that’s fine but moving forward you need to be on your own as having someone there that you know means you will be less likely to speak as openly as you would wish to. |
Will Our Sessions Be Confidential? | Yes all sessions are confidential. Detailed information on confidentiality can be found by reading my Terms and Conditions page |
Is it worth the investment? | I believe it is and my past clients have said that they found the experience beneficial and helpful in bringing about changes in their lives. I have witnessed improvements within a few sessions, and life changing improvements at the end of therapy. You are worthy of the investment of professional support to overcome whatever is making you feel uncomfortable and unhappy. |
Hypnotherapy
What is hypnosis? | There are many misunderstandings about Hypnosis and Stage Hypnotists like Paul McKenna haven’t helped what people think about it as it does give the impression that the hypnotherapist can make you do anything. THERAPEUTIC Hypnosis is a state of deep physical and mental relaxation which is induced by concentrating on a voice. You are fully in control and aware throughout the process. |
What does hypnosis feel like? | Everybody experiences hypnosis differently. However, many describe the process as enjoyable and deeply relaxing. Clients often report that afterwards they feel calm and rested, as if they have had a really good night’s sleep. |
Am I asleep? | Hypnotherapy does not put you to sleep, it just totally relaxes you. However a few people do fall asleep as they are so relaxed, but this doesn’t affect the results as your mind continues to listen whilst asleep |
Can I be made to do anything against my will or lose control? | No you can’t, therapeutic hypnosis will make you relaxed but FULLY aware of what is going on and IN CONTROL at all times. |
Is hypnotherapy guaranteed? | Whilst no therapy can be guaranteed to be successful, there is strong evidence to support the use of hypnotherapy for a wide range of problems. |
Can everyone be hypnotised? | Hypnotherapy is dependent on reaching a point of deep relaxation and this will be different for everyone and there are several techniques for reaching this point. For those who do not relax deeply, hypnotherapy is still useful but treatment may take a few sessions longer. |
Can I speak in hypnosis? | Yes you can and in fact, I might ask you some questions while you are hypnotised. |
WilI I be Unconscious? | No, you will be conscious during the hypnotherapy sessions. In fact, hypnotic suggestions would be far less effective if a client was asleep or unconscious when they were given. |
Will I remember what has happened? | Yes you will remember all that happens. Yes, you will be aware of everything that is going on during the session. Many clients recall the sessions in great detail. Some techniques require two-way communications between the client and the therapist which requires the client to be fully aware in order to play their part. |
Are drugs used? | No, not at all |
How many sessions will I need? | This will depend on how deeply relaxed you are during treatment and what you are being treated for. Generally simple problems are dealt with in 1 or 2 sessions and more deep rooted issues will take around 6 to 8 sessions. |
