About Counselling
Life can be challenging and often brings surprises and change. Navigating life’s events can be difficult. You may feel confused or unhappy, you might spend your time trying to figure out your feelings or destructive behaviours and feel you are getting nowhere. This is not a sign of weakness, sometimes the issues we face are just too big to resolve alone and professional help is needed.
Talking with an experienced therapist who has been trained to listen, not just to what you say but also to what isn’t being said, in a safe space can help you understand yourself more and see your situation more clearly. Together we explore what is troubling you and work to uncover what is behind it, what drives it and what keeps it going.

Opening up and talking to a therapist about the things that are troubling you is not easy I know, it takes courage and presents challenges such as choosing the right therapist or affordability of time and money. I understand how important it is that you find a therapist you feel secure and comfortable with and this is why I am committed to providing a welcoming, safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment where you can speak freely and seek the support that you need at this time.
People access counselling for a whole range of issues and it can help resolve traumatic past or current events, mental health struggles, psychosomatic ailments and help you see through difficult situations. It can help you to re-build resilience, confidence and self-esteem, it can help you understand yourself better or identify recurring patterns of behaviour we fall into time and time again and explore what’s behind it, what drives It and what keeps it going.
Coming to counselling is a step you will not regret, it can be life changing.
How can I make therapy effective
Therapy is about talking so for it to be effective you need to be willing to talk about what is on your mind. This may be difficult at first, but it is essential if you are to gain from coming to counselling. This does not always mean going over past events in detail, but rather talking about how those events impact you today. Talking about how you feel is part of taking charge of your well-being and doing what you can to stay mentally healthy.
You also need to be open to exploring new ideas and perspectives. I may challenge your thinking, and ask you to look again at the situation, so that you may see things in a new way. This may mean that you need to make changes and you will need to be ready to make the changes you want for yourself.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to start counselling is up to you. I believe that every individual has the ability to change, grow and heal when they are given the right circumstances and a safe, confidential counselling space can enable this to happen.
Will counselling solve my problems?
Counselling can’t change what has happened in the past and it may not completely solve your problems, but it can help you to make sense of things and to see things more clearly so that your issues, concerns or past will have less of an impact on your everyday life. You will also learn techniques to help you live more effectively and will assist you in living more functionally and effectively.
Is it worth the investment?
Over the years life has thrown me many challenges such as low self esteem, health issues, coping with a suicidal child, depression, grief, relationship issues and divorce. I have coped with some of these issues alone and for some I needed to undertake counselling. It was working with excellent counsellors who built up a trusting relationship with me and helped guide me through to a much better place that has been the key to me becoming the strong, confident person I am today.
Many clients say that they find the opportunity to speak impartially, empathically and without judgement extremely beneficial and helpful in bringing about changes in their lives. I have witnessed improvements in mood and demeanour within a few sessions, and life changing behaviour long term.
You are your best asset. You are worthy of the investment to overcome whatever is making you feel uncomfortable and unhappy.
What Type of Counselling is Best for Me?
Both short-term and long-term counselling work very well, the type of counselling we decide to undertake will depend on a number of things including
- What you want to talk about in the sessions and also what you want to get from those sessions.
- Whether you have a budget or time constraint.
- How quickly you work, some people process things faster than others, it’s important to work at a pace that suits you.
During our first session together we will talk about what is best for you, taking all factors into consideration.
